A Cloudy Day on the London Photowalk near UWO
Photography class project on feet
I cheated
This picture was taken when i was in Grand Bend this winter. I am just posting this here to try out the flickr to wordpress thing.
I just got my computer back yesterday and I finally got my camera back a couple of days ago both of them broke a while ago so I was pretty much stuck with nothing to do. Now that I do have all my tech stuff back I will be trying to post a lot more to make up for the time I missed out on. Having said that summer is just around the corner and I will probably be on my bike more than in front of my computer. But since nobody actually reads this, I guess that’s not such a big deal right? I’m just kidding I will still try to get more posts out there and I don’t really care that nobody will read this.
I’m going outside now to ride my bike because it is a beautiful day out and it is supposed to rain here for the rest of the weekend. You gotta enjoy it while you can, right? Ill post something that is actually semi-interesting here later today or tomorrow. Take care, thanks for reading.
This is an essay i wrote for my English class, I know it’s not well written but I don’t care. I don’t think the whole thing is true BTW
There is a problem in the world today, a problem that has been going on for a long time. The problem is skiers. Everybody seems to know that snowboarders are better than skiers, except for the skiers themselves.
Skiers think they are above everyone on the mountain. They think that just because they are on skis they own the slopes. For example if there are three friends and they are all on skis and three other friends all on snowboards and a full singles line. The skiers would not even think of letting one of the people in the singles line on the lift with them whereas the snowboarders would let anyone on with them even if it was a skier. The snowboarders might even start a conversation with the skier and convince him to get a snowboard.
Anybody that has ever seen a skier fall should know that a snowboard would be a good idea because when a skier falls it is quite a sight. When they hit the ground skis fly off in different directions and the poles go up in the air and the skier slides across the snow. When the skier comes to a stop the people on lift usually yell “yard sale!” because the skier lost so much equipment that the hill looks like someone is having a yard sale. When a snowboarder falls the most they lose is their breath. As you can imagine it would be very annoying for a skier to pick up all of their gear after a big wipeout, especially since they are probably in a lot of pain. As for snowboarders they probably wont be hurting as much because their limbs cant go flailing around and they don’t have to pick up all of their equipment because it is attached.
Now all of the skiers reading this will probably be saying that skiing can be hard. Nobody would disagree with that, some types of skiing can be very hard. Freestyle skiing looks very difficult but I know that it is actually not that hard. One of my friends thought that he would try to ski one day on the hill. So he got a pair of rental skis and started going down the hill. He didn’t even fall his first couple of runs so he was fairly confident. He was so confident that he thought he could hit the rail, so he did. Now this doesn’t sound very smart because doing rails looks hard on skis but it obviously is not hard because he landed it on his first try. If freestyle skiing was actually as hard as it looks how would somebody that has only been skiing for half an hour be able to do a rail on the first try? The same person that tried skiing for the first time took a whole month to learn how to do the very same rail on a snowboard. This proves that skiing looks hard but it is actually much easier than snowboarding and that makes it less rewarding and also less fun.
If someone ever tries to convince you that you should learn how to ski you should remember this paper and tell them no. you should tell them that snowboarding is a much more fun sport and it is also much more rewarding when you learn how to do it because it isn’t easy. Snowboarding is much better than skiing and the only people that would disagree would be skiers.
In a couple of weeks I am going to Crystal Mountain in Michigan, I will be taking a ton of pictures. I am going to try to rent a lens for the trip. I really want to rent the Canon 70-200 because it would be perfect for taking some action shots on the mountain. The only problem is it costs like 150 bucks, I don’t have that kind of money to throw around. I might be able to get my parents to pay half for me but that’s still a lot of money. I really want to get a longer lens for the trip because I would have to get pretty close with my 50mm and that would kind of mess me up. Imagine if you were standing at the bottom of a 30 foot jump and a snowboarder is rocketing towards you it would be kind of hard to get the shot I think.
Even if I don’t rent the lens I should still get some pretty sick shots because I still have my 18-55 kit lens and my new 50mm prime so that will still be kinda awesome. Last year I went to the same mountain and I didn’t really get many pictures. That was probably because I was to busy snowboarding but that’s not going to happen this time.
Anyway im going to stop writing now because I am getting very distracted. So thanks for reading and I wont be writing for a while because im going on that trip so you wont be hearing from me for a while.
A few days ago my mom told me we were going to Blue Mountain with my cousins, I was so excited because I have never been there before and it’s the best mountain in Ontario. Then later on she told us she messed up and we are actually going to Boler. Big letdown, but that’s still better than going to Cobble right? Yah it is but now were not even going to Boler anymore were going to crappy old Cobble Hills. Its not that I hate Cobble, I actually really like it there but it gets really boring doing the same jump and the same three rails over and over and over. But I guess that just means I’m good at doing that line.
I guess that ill just have to show everybody up at Cobble again, no big deal. I’m just kidding but the people I go with are probably some of the best snowboarders that go there. I’m not being cocky or anything that’s only because all the good people go to Boler. Oh well I could probably show up a bunch of the people at Boler too.
I’m gonna stop saying I’m better than other people and leave this alone before I say I’m better than Shaun White or something. So thanks for reading and don’t be mad that I’m a better snowboarder than you. (just kidding)
I was thinking about whether or no I should drop my photography class earlier this week because it really didn’t involve any photography. I asked my teacher today if I could do some other projects that are out side of school and he said yes! I am going to do a project on snowboarding and a bunch of other cool things. I really don’t want to drop this course now because I think it might actually be fun.
Next weekend I am going on the next London photowalk in Port Stanley. It should be really cool because everything will be covered in snow and the water will be partly frozen. I am really looking forward to having a fun time there especially because the last time I actually left my house with my camera was like two months ago.
So I’m gonna go now because I really don’t want to write while I watch Christine Nesbitt kick ass in speed skating. So ill post some stuff later on probably about women’s halfpipe and how much better it could be (just kidding…sort of). Anyway thanks for reading.
Today I went around looking to buy a new helmet. I went to the Boardshop because they’re the only decent snowboard shop anywhere near London. They only had one good helmet in stock and it was white, I can’t get a white helmet because there is no way I could keep it white. I don’t blame them for not having a lot of stock left because the guy working there said they have sold over four hundred helmets this season. That’s a crazy high number I doubt that there are even four hundred snowboarders in London.
So I left the Boardshop after checking out all of the new bindings and boards. I started looking around online and I found a really nice helmet that was almost the same as the one I was looking at in the store. The one I found was a little bit nicer and it was about ten bucks cheaper even after shipping. So I bought that one and it should be getting here in a couple of days.
I can’t wait for it it’s a pretty nice helmet and I really needed a new one because my old bucket was held together with hockey tape. This one defiantly wont need any tape on it. It has a new type of liner in it that is pretty much a toque. There is no way that my ears will get cold while I am wearing this helmet.
Here is a link to a picture of this bucket I have been talking about http://www.bernunlimited.com/2008/baker.html take a look at it, soak it in, don’t worry ill wait for you… did you look at it? Nice eh? Anyway I’m really excited to get that new helmet so I’m going to wait for the delivery guy on my front porch. Thanks for reading.
